Art Therapy and the Medical Library
Presented by
Helen Colevins, MLS, MFA, Medical Librarian, Wake AHEC Medical Center, Raleigh, NC

The North Carolina Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program began in 1972 with federal dollars and was funded as a statewide program in 1974 by the NC General Assembly. It provides the state’s health professionals with regionally-based education, training and access to health sciences library collections, thus enabling a unique partnership between the university health science centers and local communities. Visit ncahec.net for more information about the NC AHEC program.

Art Therapy and the Wake Medical Library session consisted of an introduction to the services offered by the library, including experience with medical research tools and topics. The session followed with hands on exploration of several websites related to Art therapy research. A discussion of proper search terms and subject headings to use when researching medical literature was also covered. Sample searches were conducted on art therapy topics.
